Franz Politzer
born 1950, Vienna
Franz Politzer’s paintings are hallmarked by their unusual configurations of landscapes and the way they move between the boundaries of reality. As an artist, he extracts the essence from several different impressions and uses this to create his elaborate compositions.
Politzer’s works never portray specific situations, yet the viewer still has the impression of looking at something familiar, perhaps even something that has already happened. It isn’t uncommon for someone to familiarize themselves with these paintings and then notice the landscape elements that function as both subject and prompt for Politzer’s works.
Franz Politzer was born in Vienna on 2 May 1950. After completing his high school education, he spent two years studying geology, before turning his attention to painting and enrolling at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. His professor was Walter Eckert, in whose masterclass he studied for five years.
